can earn up to a 4x multiplier. The number of remain- ing spins is shown on the gas gauge. When ve Harley- Davidson Jackpot symbols land on the rst payline with maximum bet on all paylines, the game awards the top jackpot and a special edition Harley-Davidson Fat Boy® motorcycle!
Already at Sycuan Casino, the Popeye® video slot is a nine-line, 45-coin multi-site progressive jackpot avail- able in 5¢ and 25¢ denominations. Reel symbols depict Popeye, Olive Oyl, Brutus (isn’t that really Bluto?),
Wimpy and Swee’ Pea. Both of the bonus features are really fun. Three or more adjacent hamburger symbols on an active payline trigger the “Wimpy Burger Fea- ture.” Wimpy enters at the left and moves across the screen munching all the adjacent burgers to reveal a multiplier amount.
Popeye Slot Wimpy Burger Feature
The main bonus game, “Brutus’ Big Boat Battle” is a three-part cartoon. Three or more spinach cans on an active payline trigger a scene depicting a ship with Olive Oyl trapped on board and Popeye ready to save her. You select one of three paths for Popeye to board the boat. Each path has a bonus amount. The game also includes extra hidden bonus amounts if triggered by four or ve spinach can symbols. There are great voice-overs that sound just like the famous sailor.
Survivor, Harley-Davidson and Hollywood Squares slots have been long awaited since they were announced last October at gaming
industry trade shows.
Survivor and Hollywood Squares are created by WMS Gaming. Survivor is, of course, based on the enormously successful real- ity TV show and takes the player through hairy expe- riences in the wilds of the world. Hollywood Squares features an animated Whoopie Goldberg (a self-
avowed keen slot player) answering questions from the center square.
While not brand, spanking new, the Raining DiamondsTM video slots, which won the prestigious top prize as the Most Innovative Gaming Product of 2002, is a consistent favorite among the women, although around Valentines Day, we saw full banks of men playing this slot, perhaps looking for the diamond payoffs for their sweethearts? This unique game features a prize bank filled with different levels of diamond jewelry. You can play Raining Diamonds at Barona and Rincon Casinos.
And what are some of the other new slots coming in the next few months or so? Bally Gaming will soon release a series of video slots featuring Ray Charles. One of the games, Ray Charles’ America the BeautifulTM, has sound clips of the great blues man and features a unique Braille button deck and special audio-assist capabilities for the visually impaired.
Mikohn’s video slot Clue® will be a huge draw, along with Trivial Pursuit®. These slots were recently called “The Thinking Man’s Slots” by Casino Player magazine. They are part of Mikohn’s “knowledge and strategy-based games”. And IGT will release the Marilyn MonroeTM slot this year as part of its Diamond CinemaTM progressives, with Frank SinatraTM slots not far behind. And to celebrate 50 years of America’s love affair with “I Love Lucy,” IGT has created a series of fun I Love Lucy® slots—one that even smells like chocolate!
And these are the games that have already been or are being produced in 2002! There’s no end to the ideas for slots. It will be fun to know what the designers of these companies are working on now, but that’s another story! In the meantime, brace yourself, San Diego! Get ready for more slot fun and games at your favorite casino!

Cinema slot features Marilyn Monroe, coming soon to San Diego County.
The new Popeye slot, currently available at Sycuan Casino, is part of Bally’s Thrillions wide-area progres- sives and features Popeye, Olive Oyl, Swee’ Pea and Brutus in several fun bonus features. Popeye is a video slot with great animation and fantastic sound. This is another 5¢ slot machine with 15 lines of play. Since this is a new slot, the jackpot is piling up and up! Check out Bally Thrillions jackpots at www.bally.com.
So, could you be a winner? Playing progressives is not for everyone. If you have dreams of winning “The Big Ones,” be certain you always play the maximum number of coins. Look at the machine carefully.
The odds of hitting a progressive jackpot are in direct proportion to the amount of the jackpot. Small progres- sives hit often, whereas large, giant progressive hits can be calculated in months. You have to decide how much of your playing money you want to spend on progressives.
Legend (and fact, recently) has it that many wide-area progressive winners put no more than a $20 bill in a machine before hitting. A recent tale purports that a sweet grandmother put her last three quarters of play- ing money into her favorite slot, and emerged glassy- eyed, weak-kneed, starring at three Wheel of Fortune symbols and a payout of over $200k! So, it’s all about being in the right place at the right time. Who knows?
You could be the next big San Diego County winner!
