Years ago, slot manufacturers tapped into gamers’ cultural consciousness and delivered games with themes from the “Baby Boomer” era. Current popular slot machines are based on Sixties’ and Seventies’ TV game shows and sitcoms, board games, and cultural icons. IGT began the trend in 1986 with its very popular Wheel of Fortune®, followed by Jeopardy!® and Elvis® game series. (Read more about these in the feature on progressives on page 15.) Other manufacturers fol- lowed with slots based on board games like Monopoly®,
Yahtzee® and Scrabble®.
Now, 2002 game themes have mined the cultural
landscape to include slots based on movie and TV stars, current phenomenally successful TV shows, and even consumer products.
