Cahuilla Band of Indians Helps Local School
The Cahuilla Creek Casino Board presented the Hamilton School in Anza, California with $15,000 for its Athletic Program on September 24th. A longtime supporter of the Hamilton School, the Cahuilla Band designated the  nancial support for the school’s sports programs. In another demonstra- tion of Southern California community support, the Cahuilla Creek Casino hosted UCLA graduate student  lmmakers on September 30th, and allowed the  lmmaking group access to the casino for  lm- making purposes. The student  lmmakers used the unique casino backdrop and setting for a student  lm project.
1st Annual Iron Horse
Powwow in Vista
The  rst annual Iron Horse Powwow will be held at the Vista Gas & Steam Engine Museum on November 23–24. The powwow will feature top competition dancers and drum groups of over forty American Indian tribes. The art, music, and dance of the American Indian will be featured. Selected artists, traders and dealers will display and sell American Indian arts and crafts at the largest Indian Market in the area. The Indian Market opens at 10:00 a.m. The arena blessing and gourd dancing will be at
11:00 a.m. with grand entry and  ag ceremonies at 12:00 p.m. The Contest dancing and other events will follow. Admission: Adults: $8.00; children eleven and under: $5.00; children under  ve: Free. Parking

Herterich, 14, who made a presentation to the Soboba Tribal Council to request aid for the Hemet charity. The Tribal Council was impressed by Herterich’s initiative and resourcefulness, and made the donation based on his previous work with the Hemet charity group.
10th Diversity Awards Honor
Diversity in the Cinematic Arts
A highlight of the Tenth Anniversary Diversity Awards, held on November 2–3 at Paramount Studios and the Beverly Hills Hotel, includes Native American  lm screenings: “Skins”: by Chris Eyre; “Bread” by Adrian Brown; “Standing Cloud” by Kimberly Guerrero; and “True Whispers” by Yvonne Russo and Valerie Red-Horse. Airing later in November on PBS, “True Whispers” is a documentary on the World War II NavajoCodeTalkers.Theawarddinnerwillbehosted by comedian George Lopez and Leeza Gibbons, host of the syndicated TV show, “Extra.”
Recipients of this year’s awards include Michael Clarke Duncan, Rosario Dawson, Erika Christensen, TheRock,andTVshows,“TheWestWing”,“Becker” and “Boston Public,” among others.
The Diversity Awards celebration bene ts the Multicultural Motion Picture Association’s Educational and Development Scholarship Fund. The Multicultural Motion Picture Association (MMPA) is a national organization of the entertainment community who share the commitment of celebrating the diversity of ideas, cultures and achievements in the cinematic arts.

Thanksgiving Charity
The Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians recently donated $4,000 to Hemet’s Community Pantry. Now the Community Pantry can provide 6,500 pounds of turkey for needy families this holiday season. The donation was initiated by the request of Hemet resident, Orrin
