Need an excuse to visit America’s nest city? Super Bowl XXXVII could be it! And you don’t need tickets to the
game (they are already sold out as of last June). The NFL distributes approximately 500 pairs of tickets to fans through an annual Super Bowl random drawing. This is the NFL’s only method of distributing tickets to the general public. The entry deadline for the Super Bowl XXXVII random drawing was June 1, 2002. The
drawing was held in October. Everyone who entered has been noti ed of the results. But there are loads of pre-
game festivities and events. As of our December press time NFL and AFL Super Bowl teams had not been determined, but trust, as always, this will be a memorable Super Bowl.
The Sycuan Super Fireworks Spectacular
Among all the pre-game events, the largest reworks show in San Diego history will happen on the night before Super Bowl, Saturday, January 25th. Beginning at around 9:15 p.m., the Sycuan Super Fireworks Spectacular will light up the skies above the downtown San Diego waterfront.
The reworks will originate from six barges on San Diego Bay, off Shelter Island, Harbor Island, the North Embarcadero and Seaport Village. Waterfront locations near the barges and the Coronado Ferry Landing will be the best viewing points. Note that public transportation is optimum for those going downtown to see the show.
The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation is the show’s title sponsor and Cox Communications, KGTV Channel 10 and Clear Channel radio are presenting sponsors. The twenty-minute show will be accompanied by music and will be simulcast on Cox 4 San Diego, KGTV Channel 10 and Clear Channel radio on KGB 101.5 FM.
“We are very excited to support the Super Bowl XXXVII Host Committee by sponsoring the largest reworks show ever in San Diego’s history,” said Daniel Tucker, Vice Chairman of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. “We have been heavily involved in many worthwhile projects in our community for many years. The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation is delighted to play a major role in Super Bowl activities in January. This event will be remembered for many years to come as a landmark piece of Super Bowl XXXVII.”
