SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GAMING GUIDE
Video poker players come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life — from the famous (basketball players and rock stars) to the infamous (ex-politico authors); from the novice (me and you) to the professional (the “Million Dollar Video Poker” man and woman).
All Southern California tribal casinos have video poker games. In fact, an average of 30% of Southern California tribal casinos’ slots are video poker machines. Here are a few of our favorite places to play video poker (in alphabetical order):
BARONA VALLEY RANCH RESORT & CASINO—Wide variety of machines in varying denominations—great ambiance and service and a gorgeous new casino and hotel. Barona is a popular place to play video poker for the quarter, dollar and ve-dollar player. Check out the pay tables on the dollar Jacks or Better machines under the Barona “label.” Some of these are great 9/6 plays. Barona’s high-limit room, Parlour 32, specializes in high-stakes video poker and has a large following.
CAHUILLA CREEK CASINO — Country casual Cahuilla Creek Casino is small, but has some great video poker plays! Go and play and stay for the food and entertainment. With some of the friendliest casino hosts around, Cahuilla Creek Casino is a jewel in Riverside County’s Anza. Fun, friendly country folks and lively play!
CASINO PAUMA—One of our San Diego North County favorite places to play video poker, Casino Pauma has a laid-back and friendly atmosphere among the orange groves, plus some great video poker machines! Look for Pauma’s $10,000 video poker tournament on July 27th. Buy in before July 1st for $50! (Call the casino for details.) Fun, friendly people, great plays and fabulous food values!
GOLDEN ACORN CASINO—Well worth the drive (From San Diego, on the Interstate 8 East) for all the latest slots and the great video poker! Golden Acorn Casino has a wide following from San Diego and Imperial Counties, with its great mix of games, restaurant and special events.
SOBOBA CASINO—Remember our famous Southern California Gaming Guide reader Wheel of Fortune winner who went to Soboba Casino by reading the Southern California Gaming Guide? He went to Soboba to play video poker, which he did (and won) and then, on a whim, played “Wheel” (and won again!). Soboba has a great array of video poker plays — and good pays! Casual fun casino with great entertainment!
SYCUAN CASINO & RESORT—All-encompassing group of video poker plays from Game King to Pot-O-Gold and Royal Touch plays. Sycuan runs video poker tournaments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (see page 6 for details). If you’ve never played in a tournament before, read page 8 for tips and get yourself to Sycuan! Great pay tables, lively, fun atmosphere, and fabulous food—particularly the Pearls of the Sea restaurant.

Double Down Stud® Poker
A Stud® video poker machine? You bet! The game is the classic. Make a bet and you are then dealt four cards.
