La Jolla Slot Arcade to Expand to Casino Hotel
The 30-machine slot arcade at the La Jolla Trading Post is going to grow. In mid August the San Diego County La
Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians announced their plans to partner with Nevado Gold & Casinos, Inc. to create a $25 million resort.
e multi-phase project will be developed on the 9,998-acre La Jolla Indian Reservation on state Route 76, south of Palomar Mountain, near the tribe’s campground and water park on the San Luis Rey River. In May 2002 the 700-member tribe opened its slot arcade in its gas-stop/convenience store.
e rst phase will include a 349-slot casino with 12 table games, a 75-room hotel, plus dining and parking facilities. Subsequent phases may include an expanded casino, RV-park, and entertainment venues. Construction is anticipated to begin before the end of the year. e new casino is expected to open before the end of 2005, pending the necessary regulatory, construction and other approvals.
