On ursday, April 21st, the big race will be “con- duck-ted” at the lake behind the Barona Valley Ranch Resort hotel. e sponsor of the winning duck has a chance at a $1 million nest egg! Other prizes include a lease on a Saturn Ion, and an all expense-paid trip for two to Disneyworld. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a kick-o party featuring live entertainment, refreshments, and a blood drive, followed by the Quacker Dash.

Campo Band of Kumeyaay Indians to Create “Green” Energy
The Campo Band of Kumeyaay Indians, owners of Golden Acorn Casino, have joined with Superior
Renewable Energy of Houston, Texas to createthecountry’s rstcommercialwind energy project on Indian land. Operating under a subsidiary corporation called Kumeyaay Wind, Superior Renewable

ourteen-year old Chris Cuero, a student the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego, at Mountain Empire Junior High and on Chris’ behalf. e foundation grants wishes the son of an employee at Golden to children who have been diagnosed with
Acorn Casino, was born with a problem: damaged kidneys, resulting in chronic renal failure. From the time he was three years old, Chris and his mother have been in and out of doctors’ o ces and hospitals for test after test. In November 2004 it became apparent Chris would have to be placed on the National Kidney List to receive a new kidney—and quickly — no later than the end of March 2005. His mother, Barbara, was the rst to be tested, and determined to be the best match.
e Campo Band of Kumeyaay Indians did not hesitate in making a generous donation to
a life-threatening illness. And Chris’ wish? Electronics, video games, and a guitar to help speed up the hours of long recovery. So Chris was the lucky recipient of a shopping trip to Best Buy, and was treated to a guided tour of Carvin Guitars, in San Diego. Barbara asked that the Campo Tribe be recognized for their generosity and unfailing emotional support of both her and her son.

Energy plans to sell electricity to San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).
e planned $80 million project 60 miles east of San Diego will be completed in November 2005. It is anticipated to generate up to 50
megawatts of electricity a year for SDG&E customers. Over 50,000 San
Diego County homes will be powered by green energy from this facility over the next 20 years with zero pollution and no water use. Under a 20- year agreement with the Campo Band, Superior Renewable Energy will erect 25 turbines just north of Interstate 8. Similar to the structures in the Coachella Valley, the turbines will turn wind power into much needed electricity.

Air Group One, the San Diego Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), the 2005 air show presents “ e Aircraft of Midway,” featuring naval aircraft that served aboard the renowned USS Midway during World War II.
e three-day event will take hundreds of visitors on a virtual ight through the past in celebration of the people and aircraft of World War II. e exhibit will feature signi cant carrier based aircraft which aided the United States’ victory in the Battle of Midway, a key turning point of World War II.

blood collected each year by
approximately 10%, improving the chances of saving thousands of
livesannually.
