his month we debut a new look on our pages that I like, and hope you do, too. After publishing the Gaming Guide for four and half years, I welcome change, and like most of us, I particularly like the kind of
change that I can control. We always like to hear your comments, so let us know what you think about our “new look” pages.
We are overwhelmed again this year with annual survey responses, and look forward to announcing the 2006 Best of Southern California Gaming—and the names of the 2006 survey contest winners. e October 2006 issue will feature the Best of Southern California Gaming, and will announce all contest winners. Who knows — you may be the winner of $1,000 cash or a Norwegian Cruise Line 8-day cruise from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera or even a fantastic new Phantom EFX computer game — Reel Deal High Roller or Reel Deal Mystic Forest!
is month’s cover story, “Beat the Heat...” had been planned for months, but I didn’t realize, in fact, how timely it would become. Triple digit temperatures in Southern California are fading as a news item, an alarming comment on the state of our climate. But it wasn’t di cult, writer Maya Winkler said, to come up with a listof21waysto“BeattheHeatattheCasino.”Actually,shelistedover40waysthat we pared down to the well-known casino number. Read her list starting on page 16, and beat the heat! Who knows? Your trip may be well worthwhile.
Internet gaming is in the news when the House of Representatives voted to ban online poker and casino gambling on July 11th. Lawmakers voted 317 to 93 to approve the measure that prohibits banks and credit card companies from paying online gambling debts. e Senate would need to pass similar legislation to become law. Along with 93 million Americans who play poker and other games online, I will be watching for the results. History shows us that prohibitions do not work, but time will tell.
Meanwhile, wager wisely and keep your play fun at the casino!
