234th place, $2,274. On the way to the cage, I was analyzing my nal hand, a desperate all-in push with A4o. I had concluded that if my kicker had been a ten or better, it would have been a much better bet.
“Jim you’re my friend and I love you, man, but I gotta tell you, sometimes you just gotta be in the moment,” said my friend as we walked to the cashier.
I made it. I had cashed in my rst-ever WSOP event. Ironically, my deal was so backer-friendly, they actually made a little bit of money and I lost a little bit, but I had the time of my life. My rst WSOP trip was everything I wanted it to be.
I outlasted 2,500 players, many of them the best players in the world. I made a few great calls, cracked aces twice with completely reasonable plays and overall was really proud of my play. I was only 234th, but I came in rst in the biggest battle of all: to work on becoming the best poker player I can be.
