Well, “possible” with 4:1 odds and the implied odds that I could get paid to write about in my column if I am right, implies call. I do. And then I hear the magic words: “Nice call.” He shows me AK and mucks.
My biggest mistake was probably making my pre- op steal attempt with a hand which has no backup potential if it gets called. However, my opponent made several mistakes. I don’t mind at-calling out of
position with AK, but if he is going to take a shot at taking the pot away on the op, then combine the turn bet and the min-raise and raise me 85 or 100 on the op and there is no way I can call. Or if he was willing to go all the way with his blu , he could have pushed on the turn and I’m sayonara, sucker.
Ultimately, the reason I called was because I was getting mixed signals from him. He was weak, he was
strong, he wanted a call, he didn’t want a call. When you make a blu , make sure the story you are telling makes sense. And if you nd yourself at my table, please fold when I raise in position.
