IHappy New Year—2007!
t is 2007, the seventh year of the 21st century. I recently read that by September of 2006 many couples had already reserved the wedding and reception date of July 7, 2007 (07-07-07), a Saturday—so they could take advantage of the auspicious day of three
sevens. And that made me wonder. Why is seven considered a lucky number?
It seems no one is really certain, but there are many instances of special sevens in di erent cultures through the ages. In almost every system of antiquity there are frequent references to the number seven. Some have biblical roots—seven days of the week; some, scienti c roots—Pythagoreans called seven the perfect number. Seven
is the number of objects in the solar system visible to the naked eye, (the sun, the moon and Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn). And there are Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Wonders of the World, Seven Seas, and Shakespeare’s “Seven Ages of Man”—and on and on.
In the casino,“Lucky 7” images derive from the game of craps, where rolling seven wins, and through time seven has become a symbol of gambler’s luck. e number of slots that feature the winning jackpot line 7-7-7 is so huge that I’d need the rest of this page just to list them all. So, will 2007 be a lucky year for you? For us all? Many casino players know that luck can come and go. You’ll have the next twelve months of 2007 to nd out.
is year we have lots of exciting features planned to keep you current on what’s happening at Southern California casinos. And we begin the New Year by featuring a sensational slot, Monopoly Big EventTM. is new community slot delivers big bonus thrills—when one player goes to the Big Event bonus, all eligible players go as well. Monopoly Big Event is one of a growing number of community play slots, where players join together during thrilling bonus rounds and can rack up the cash. You can read about Monopoly Big Event on page 16.
We’ve started a new feature this new year called Don’t Miss. Each month we will list seven (yes, that lucky number) exciting Southern California gaming events, promotions, tournaments—even books, software or movies—whatever we feel Southern California casino players should not miss for the month. Check out January’s exciting Don’t Miss list on (where else?) page 7.
Are you making New Year’s resolutions this year? Read Bill Burton’s column, A Luxurious Year on page 6, and new writer, Gail Anders’ article, Start a Casino Logbook on page 24. ey both may inspire you to make and keep your own resolutions for the year.
Here at the Southern California Gaming Guide, we wish you a fantastic 2007. May you have good health, good luck and may all your casino dreams come true.
And, as always, wager wisely, and have fun at the casinos!
