OState Senate Approves Compact Expansion
n April 19th the California Senate approved one of the biggest gaming expansion plans in the State’s history. Five Southern California Indian tribes hoping to add more slot machines to their compacts cleared the  rst of two political hurdles.  e bills allowing up to 22,500 new slots are now headed to the
Assembly, which must approve them to amend the gaming compacts.
Current gaming compacts allow these tribes to have up to 2,000 slot machines.  e compact expansions will allow the Agua Caliente and Sycuan tribes to have up to 5,000 machines, and the Morongo, Pechanga and San Manuel tribes up to 7,500 slots.
Leaders in the State Assembly say they will be looking for amendments to the compacts for more worker protections and improved regulatory power over slot machines.
