A note about a Southern California entrepreneur whose television creations spawned casino-wide slot favorites. How you remember Merv Griffin, who died August 12th, may depend on your age—and on how much you have been watching the small screen over the years. Baby boomers may remember Merv from his TV talk and variety show, and game-show fanatics know that Merv Gri n made a fortune by inventing and producing Jeopardy in the 1960s and Wheel of Fortune in the 1970s. Casino players may particularly remember Merv because of their devotion to IGT’s thrilling Wheel of Fortune® slots. In the weeks that followed his death, many people recalled how generous and life-a rming Merv was. I had occasion to be an audience member during a gaming convention session about four years ago, where Merv Gri n spoke about his contribution to gaming. He was a born raconteur and it was an unforgettable opportunity to experience his infectious enthusiasm. Yes, Merv’s memory will live on in many forms in the entertainment world, but slot players will long remember him when we hear one of our favorite sounds on the casino oor, “Wheel—of—Fortune!”
Enjoy the last days of summer, and remember to keep your play fun at the casino.
