San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Donates $200,000 to Loma Linda
IRonald McDonald House
n the fall of 2007 the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians donated $200,000 to the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House.
In December, San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino gaming commission employees, accompanied by tribal representatives, made a visit to the Ronald McDonald House, which provides room and board for families with seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. ey brought gifts including cash, gift cards, toys, and other gift items.
In 2006 the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House was forced to turn away 331 families. e 2007 gifts by the Tribe and its gaming commission employees allow the charity to continue to put families up in nearby hotels if space lls up at the Ronald McDonald house.
Pala Band of Mission Indians Donates
$1 million for Homes for
LTa Jolla Tribe Fire Victims
he Pala Band of Mission Indians announced in December, 2007 that it donated $1 million to buy mobile homes for families of the La Jolla Band of Mission Indians who were victims of the Poomacha re in October.
“We felt it was the right thing to do for a fellow Native American tribe,” said
Pala Chairman Robert Smith.
e Poomacha re started at the La Jolla reservation near Palomar Mountain on October 23rd and burned about 9,000 acres and 60 structures. It scorched more than 50,000 acres from Palomar Mountain to the Rincon, Pauma and San Pasqual Indian reservations. e re also burned more than 1,800 acres at the Pala reservation.
e La Jolla band supports its government functions by running a campground and with funds from tribal casinos received through a revenue- sharing agreement.
Chairman Smith said that 28 families were left without homes at the La Jolla reservation. He said the ones in most need, such as the elderly and those without re insurance, would receive the mobile homes rst.
Members of the La Jolla tribe also received donations from other Southern California tribes, including the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians and the Rincon San Luiseño Band of Mission Indians.
