SCelebrating Six Years of The Gaming Guide
ix years ago this month we began publishing the Southern California Gaming Guide— rst as a San Diego monthly, and six months later, we expanded to the Southern California Gaming Guide, and included news of all tribal government casinos in Southern California. Since then, the Southern California Gaming Guide
is at over 3,700 locations throughout Southern California in Ventura County, Los Angeles County, including the San Fernando Valley, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego Counties and the Imperial Valley. And six years later, thanks to you and all our advertisers, we have a growing readership of well over 450,000 monthly. In the next months, look for new features and cover stories, an expanded web site, and even more pages  lled with casino news and information. We look forward to bringing more readers more Southern California casino and gaming news for many more years.
OnFebruary5th,SouthernCaliforniavoterswillhaveachancetomakeourvoicesheardinthePresidential primary and on Propositions 94, 95, 96 and 97, important referenda on four governor- and State legislature-approved Indian gaming compacts. If we vote yes, new compacts for the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians will be approved.  e new compacts will allow each tribe to increase the number of slot machines in their casinos. Each Tribe would be obligated to pay a larger revenue to the State.  e four tribes would collectively pay $131 million to California each year. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a “ scal emergency” because the state faces a $14.5 billion de cit. Over the next two decades, the new compacts will give California a total of more than $9 billion to help balance the state budget and pay for public safety, education and other services—without increasing taxes. Yes, a blizzard of television ads will try to in uence your vote. But you can decide by reading your o cial Voter Information Guide, sent to each California registered voter, and also online at www.voterguide.sos.ca.gov.
