Have a Thrilling Summer of Winning!
Volume 7, Number 8 • August 2008
Each year I enjoy creating our August issue with our sta . It gives us a chance to remind casino players about all the exciting events at Southern California casinos during the summer. And this is a summer of winning. Casinos have fantastic luxury car and big cash promotions, plus you can see sensational entertainers in concert, experience award-winning dining at great value prices, enjoy a weekend casino getaway at award-winning world-class resorts, play in heart-pounding slot tournaments, enjoy sizzling pool party weekends, and hopefully win a lot of cash. Talk about fun! is summer the slots are hot, and casinos have many di erent ways for players to win. Read our August feature, Casino Summer Sizzlers on page 18 for just a few highlights of Southern California casino thrilling events to make you winners.
Are you feeling lucky this month? Well, 8-8-08—August 8, 2008—is heralded as one of the luckiest days of the century. So that may be a great day to try your luck at the casino. And why is 8-8-08 so signi cant? e date is not only catchy, but the number 8 is also considered very auspicious in Chinese culture. In fact, the summer Olympics in Beijing will begin on 8-8-08, at 8:08 p.m. Also, when the numeral “8” is turned on its side, it becomes the symbol for in nity. Don’t miss Anna Tennant’s article, Luck Comes in Eights This Year, on page 27. She relates the detailed signi cance of the numbered day, along with some little known 888 good luck stories.
I believe you make your luck, so whenever you choose to go to the casino—or do anything, for that matter, think positive. Have a positive outcome in mind. Visualize and feel that you will win (or reach your goal). I’m always amazed when I go to the casino and hear people say “I never win anything.” If that is true, I wonder why they keep going to the casino? I hope no matter what your outcome at the casino, that you have fun.
Here at the Southern California Gaming Guide we have certainly been having fun—and have been very busy—receiving all your surveys that will determine the Best of Southern California Gaming for 2008. Completed surveys will be entered into a drawing that will take place in September for $3,000 in cash prizes and 40 award-winning Phantom EFX computer games for some lucky winners. Did you vote for your favorite slot and best casino? e October 2008 issue will report the results of our sixth annual Reader’s Choice Awards and announce the Best of Southern California Gaming for 2008. Prize winners will be posted online on October 1st and will also be listed in the October issue. Who knows—you may be one of our lucky cash winners or a winner of a fun Phantom EFX computer game.
Meanwhile, stay cool in August, and always keep your play fun at the casinos.
Correction: In the July 2008 issue, Valley View Casino mistakenly reported that Edna R. won $98,525 on a Lucky Strike slot machine; however, she actually won $40,125 on a Monte Carlo slot machine.
