Happy New Year 2009!
Volume 8, Number 1 • January 2009
It’s a new year, unlike any other. Across the country, we asked for and are receiving a time of change. And change is good. ere’s opportunity in change, and challenge, if we can see it. So how does this relate to playing at the casino? We hear from many readers that more and more they are looking for value for their play at the casinos of their choice, and Southern California casinos are delivering just that. Casinos are o ering more great cash promotions, fantastic perks (including free play) and exciting jackpots.
We begin 2009 by featuring Primo Payouts!—your favorite subject—slot winners. Frequent contributor Maya Winkler has culled just a few awesome winners from the past few months of 2008 and presents their stories, many of them inspiring the reality of winning “ e Big One”—a large jackpot payout—at the casino. You can read about their primo payouts starting on page 18.
e Lunar New Year, beginning January 26th, is the Year of the Ox. Celebrated by Asian cultures all over the world, the Lunar New Year is considered a time of promise and prosperity. Don’t miss Lunar New Year celebrations at your favorite Southern California casinos. e Year of the Ox promises to be one of great prosperity through diligence and perseverance. See page 8 for Lunar New Year casino promotions and celebrations.
In response to recent readers’ requests, we asked Gail Anders to update her article, on keeping a Casino Logbook, which has appeared in several past January issues. e rst of the year is a good time to begin—if you haven’t already started—the practice of keeping track of your casino play. It can save you tax dollars and provide you with an insight into your casino playing. e article is on page 33.
In 2009 we plan more exciting features to keep you current on what’s happening at Southern California casinos. And look for our “Green” feature in coming months. We will share how we have been keeping abreast with all ecological printing methods to help conserve the planet. And just a reminder, please recycle your copies of the
Southern California Gaming Guide. As stated on our masthead, we produce this newspaper on recycled newsprint, using soy-based inks.
When we created the Southern California Gaming Guide almost seven years ago, we established this monthly newspaper as an advocate for Responsible Gaming. Making news available about Southern California casinos and exciting slots is a great service to casino players, and judging from your constant letters, phone calls, and e-mails, we know the Southern California Gaming Guide delivers what you want to read. Gaming is an entertainment and intended to be fun. In this challenging economy it is important to remember to play responsibly and keep your casino play fun.
On behalf of our staff and contributors, I wish you all a fantastic 2009. May you have good health, good luck and may all your casino dreams come true.
