TWorld Series of Poker®: Now There Are Nine
he massive eld of 6,494 players who entered the World Series of Poker® (WSOP) Main Event has been narrowed
to just nine competitors who will return to Las Vegas on November 7th to compete for a top prize of more than $8.5 million and the most coveted prize in poker: the WSOP champion’s
gold bracelet.
Main Event play began July 3rd, and the eld was
trimmed to just 27 players from seven countries at the start of play on July 15th. Logger Darvin Moon of Oakland, Maryland, is the chip leader. Moon, 45, owns and operates a small logging company with other family members. is is Moon’s rst time in the WSOP. He won his seat at a casino in West Virginia. He had never been to Las Vegas before July 3rd, and will return in November with more than $58.9 million in tournament chips.
In addition to Moon, the other eight players in the
nal table are Eric Buchman, 28, of Valley Stream, New
York; Steven Begleiter, 47, of Chappaqua, New York; Je
Shulman, 34, of Las Vegas; Joseph Cada, 21, of Shelby Township, Michigan; Kevin Scha el, 51, of Coral Springs, Florida; Phil Ivey, 33, of Las Vegas, Antoine Saout, 25, of Paris, France; and James Akenhead, 26, of London, England. Everyone at the nal table is guaranteed at least $1,263,602 with the winner snagging the gold bracelet and $8,546,435.

e November Nine will resume play at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on November 7th. When the nal two players are identi ed, play will stop,
resuming again on November 10th. ESPN will provide same day coverage of the winning hand and the awarding of the champion’s bracelet.
