Sycuan Donates $15,000 P
to Get Parents to Little League World Series
ark View Little League of Chula Vista made it to the 2009 Little League World Series. And the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyyay Nation made it possible for the players’ parents to
join their sons in Williamsport, PA, with a $15,000 donation.
“We were very happy to be able to do this and help the parents be part of something so amazing. We hope they
had a great time while watching their kids make a run at a Little League World Series title,” said Daniel J. Tucker, Chairman of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.
Since Little League only pays the cost of travel for players and coaches, family members who want to attend the international baseball tournament in Pennsylvania must raise their own money in a matter of days, a tall order, even in good economic times. Chairman Tucker and the rest of the Sycuan Tribal Council heard about the need for funding and approached Park View Little League administrators about a donation, which helped pay for the parents’ airfare and lodging expenses during the event. Sycuan also created special-edition baseball hats just for the players, coaches and parents. Due to the limited production and unique design, the hats quickly became a collector’s item.
