Iplay slots at casinos and usually have great fun. I don’t always win, but I have a very decent winning track record. But sometimes I know luck isn’t with me. Last month I went to the casino with a new friend who told me explicitly that she had bad luck, and seemed to impart it to anyone she played with. I told her not to worry. I didn’t believe anyone could affect my luck, but me.

I believe being lucky is all about how you think about life and yourself—and not only at the casino. If you have a positive attitude, you already have good luck. People who are positive can even see the plus side of a negative situation.
For instance, I won a string of nice jackpots last year. I played some of my winnings back over the course of three months, and I was still ahead, but knew I was losing. So I stopped playing for two months. When I went back to the casino, the rst night there, I won a $20,000 jackpot.
en I realized that sometimes what you think is bad luck is just a message to not push your luck.
I think of myself as lucky, no matter what—even when I am losing. In the long run I know that my supposed bad luck works out for the best. But I know a lot of people think di erently. When they aren’t winning, they play more and chase their losses. ey obsess about wearing lucky clothes, carrying lucky charms, and even going to the casino on days with certain numbers.
But, the real question is can you change or increase your luck? Here are a few tips I believe can help.
4 Relax. ere is no use stressing about what has happened before. If you lost last time at the casino, remember that was another day. It’s done, let it go. If you can’t let it go because it was a big “ouch” in your pocketbook, then you need to go home and not gamble for a while.
4 Listen to your gut feelings and your hunches.
4 Expect the positive. Don’t say “I never win.” I always wonder why people who believe they never win go to casinos. It’s a self-fulfilling prophesy. Our words and thoughts have power. When you go to the casino think and be positive about the outcome.
4 Have reasonable expectations about your luck in all aspects, and rejoice when you win anything. A state of grace in all that you do in life can make a di erence to you and everyone around you.
4 See the positive side of any situation—paradoxically, even losing.
So, when my friends ask me how I am doing at the casino now, in this current economy, I can honestly say I have never enjoyed my casino play more. I win and lose, and so far am a consistent winner because I believe in my good luck and in my good sense of knowing when not to push my luck.
