More Ways to Win!
Ican’t think of a better month than March to focus on getting more of the green—dollars, that is. Spring is in the air—and starts on Saturday, March 20th. Plus, it’s St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 17th—the traditional wearing of the green lucky day. So to further the green theme, we celebrate March with an issue on More Ways to Win at the casino. e key to taking advantage of all casino winning opportunities is to use a players club card. ere are awesome promotions and events this month—some require playing with a players club card to win. So if you are not a players club card holder at any casino you visit, make sure you sign up now. Otherwise, you may miss out on some fantastic ways to win this month and the rest of the year at the casino. Don’t miss More Ways to Win in March at our featured Southern California casinos on page 18.
In recognition of this month’s national Problem Gambling Awareness Week, March 7th to March 13th, I want to remind you to be aware of your casino play. e vast majority of casino players nationwide go to casinos for entertainment, hoping that they will win, of course. Statistics show that less than 3% nationwide of casino players have gambling problems—that’s 6 million to 9 million Americans. Yet only a small fraction seeks out services, such as treatment and self-help recovery programs. e goal of this annual awareness week is to educate the general public and health care professionals about the warning signs of problem gambling and raise awareness about the help that is available both locally and nationally. Every month we feature a California Council on Problem Gambling pro bono advertisement directly below this editorial to give readers information about help for problem gambling. When casino play ceases to be fun, it’s time to stop and seek help. e California Council on Problem Gaming has resources available for problem gamblers.
Here are a few tips for keeping your play at the casino fun:
♦ Gamble socially with family or friends—not alone.
♦ Limit gambling by predetermining how much to gamble and for how long. ♦ Never gamble more than you can a ord.
♦ Never borrow money to gamble.
♦ Don’t gamble when under stress or when feeling lonely, angry or depressed. ♦ Drink alcohol responsibly when gambling.
Keep your casino play fun. Enjoy a full casino experience—a wonderful meal with friends, perhaps entertainment or a show—and who knows, you may even end up a winner.
Meanwhile, check out our new expanded website at www.TheGamingGuide.com and tell us what else you would like to see there. We have lots of new features in the works.
As always, keep your play fun, and wager wisely at the casinos.
