Bill Burton: About Gambling
TAvoid the Same Mistakes
he walls of my o ce are decorated with numerous change the odds of any game. But a good bankroll posters and signs, and many contain motivational management system will help you control the money and inspirational messages. One of my favorite that you put at risk. Once you decide on how much
Not Using a Players Card
Every casino player can earn comps including food, shows, rooms, and in some cases, cash. By signing up for a players card you will also receive information about special casino promotions. Earning comps is a way of getting something extra for you casino dollar. However, you can’t get comps if you don’t use your players card.
Chasing Losses
Nobody likes to lose. Many times after a loss, players will feel the need to try to get their money back. ey may play higher denomination slots or bet big at the tables in hopes of winning back their money in one big score. is usually does not work, and just causes bigger losses.
Playing with Borrowed Money
e number one rule of gambling is never to bet more than you can a ord to lose. Always look at gambling as a form of entertainment, and the money you play with as your price for the entertainment. Never gamble with borrowed money, which is what you do if you take a cash advance on your credit card at the casino. Leave your credit cards at home.
Most players will make one or two of these mistakes from time to time. However, if you nd you are making the same mistakes over and over again, you might want to review this list before your next casino visit. If you want a di erent result, then you have to do something di erent—avoid making the mistake.
Until next time, remember: “Luck comes and goes.. Knowledge Stays Forever.”

signs is a quote from Albert Einstein that reads,“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting di erent results.”
If this is truly the de nition of insanity, then I have to confess that I am completely bonkers. In the past I have repeated the same mistakes on several occasions in my life. Most of these mistakes tend to be nancial, and occur when I am trading stocks, playing poker or visiting the casino. At one time or another, most casino players have gotten a little crazy because we have repeatedly made the same mistakes. ere are several common mistakes that many players make. Although most of us are familiar with them, it helps sometimes to see them in print. Like the posters on my wall, they serve as a reminder to help us avoid repeating them.
Not Having a Plan
Many players go to the casino with a pocketful of money and jump from game to game until all their money is gone. I have yet to nd anyone who can honestly say that losing at the casino is an enjoyable experience. You can have a much better time if you spend a few minutes to make a plan for your casino visit. Plan your time and decide how much you want to spend gambling.
Poor Money Management
e true essence of money management is bankroll management. It is all about how to handle your money to be sure you have enough to last during your entire casino visit. Money management systems will not
money you want play, divide your bankroll into playing sessions. Take a break between sessions to stretch your money and make it last for your entire casino visit.
Playing Too Long
e longer you play, the more you expose your money to the house edge. Playing marathon gaming sessions is a sure way to lose money. Some players play slots for ve or more hours at a time. ey say they play long sessions because they don’t get to the casino often. Or they say they play for hours because they lose track of time. Something as simple as wearing a watch at the casino can help.
Playing Multiple Machines
Playing more than one machine also exposes you more to the house edge. In the long run, you will lose your money faster. Playing two machines involves standing or leaning out of your chair to reach over to the adjacent machine. is is not very relaxing. Play one machine at a time, and relax.
Getting Greedy
e downfall of most gamblers is greed. You win a little and want more, so you start making higher bets. And before you know it, you have played back all your
winnings. If you want to leave the casino a winner, you need to lock up a pro t when you win to avoid giving it all back. When you get ahead, put aside the money you started with, along with a portion of your winnings.
en play with the remainder of your pro ts.
