Sustainable Environmental Scholarship. For the second consecutive year, college students with a passion for the environment who are pursuing careers in environmental industries can apply for Barona's scholarship for assistance with college expenses.
“Our environmental scholarship program was so successful last year that we decided to o er it once again to help the next generation learn how to protect and preserve our environment,” said Edwin“ orpe” Romero, Chairman of the Barona Band of Mission Indians.
“Conservation is important to all of us at Barona and
quali ed recipients.  e scholarship funds can be used to supplement costs incurred through tuition, books and living expenses.  e application deadline is July 15th, and the winners will be announced on August 1st.
Eligible applicants must be studying a  eld related to horticulture studies, turf grass management, natural resources management or environmental sciences at a two or more year accredited college or university. Applicants must also have successfully completed a minimum of 30 semester units, with a minimum of 15 semester units of coursework from a  eld of study related to the

the San Manuel Tribe.
 e new channel will operate on a 24-hour, seven- day-a-week basis and is expected to begin operation in the spring of 2011 under an initial three-year contract.
 e channel is being funded by a $6 million donation from San Manuel Tribe.
“We found there are tons of  lms and documentaries and other programs that are already in the can and ready to be shown,” Coin said.“In the initial years (of the channel) that may be the approach, but there will be an opportunity to create new work and projects.”
San Manuel’s pioneering e orts underscore the prior challenges American Indian actors and artists have had in getting their voices and work heard and seen in the mainstream media.
“I think the problem and the challenge in the past has been having a reliable and consistent forum to showcase their work, and we are con dent this channel will become
a model for public-television programming across the country,” said, Larry R. Ciecalone, President of KVCR, a Public Broadcasting System a liate.“ e commitment of the San Manuel Tribe to informing audiences about the contributions and achievements of Native Americans in history and modern times is precedent setting.”
James Ramos, chairman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, said becoming a partner with KVCR supports the Tribe’s mission of eradicating stereotypes that often stem from inaccurate depictions of American Indians in commercial television.
