n February, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation donated $85,000 to the Santa Ynez Valley Youth Recreation. e funding will cover half of the refurbishment costs of the Santa Ynez High School tennis courts.
“ e tennis courts were in such disrepair that they were becoming dangerous,” said Frank Kelsey, chairman for the Santa Ynez Valley Youth Recreation. “ ere have been a few projects that Youth Rec and the Chumash Foundation have come together with matching funding. It’s been a great partnership.”
ADonates $3 Million for Cancer Center
s reported in the Redlands Daily Facts in February, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians made a $3 million donation to the Loma Linda University Cancer Center to continue the creation of a new, integrated medical oncology center and biospecimen
laboratory. It represents the largest single donation to the cancer center, which draws patients from all over the country. It is also the largest donation the San Manuel Tribe has made to the Loma Linda University complex.
“Tribal members were among the very rst patients of Loma Linda University Medical e Santa Ynez Chumash Tribe donates to hundreds of local groups, Center (llumc) when it opened in 1906,” said Jacob Coin, Tribal spokesman.“It was a very
