TFrom the Publisher...
his month, we are very excited to preview a new, long-awaited video slot: Tarzan® & Jane Forbidden TempleTM. Aristocrat has pulled out all the stops in the creation of this thrilling new game. It plays like no other slot that we’ve seen in the casino, with its two Reel Power screens that connect in bonus features to deliver a truly
astonishing onslaught of wins. And did I mention the four progressives, with a top jackpot that starts at $100,000? is slot will enthrall, delight and amaze you. Read about it on page 18.
And every month is great for focusing on getting more of the green — dollars, that is — but March seems like such a natural. Spring is in the air — and starts on Tuesday, March 20th. Plus, it’s St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 17th, the traditional wearing of the green lucky day. Check out Gaming News, on page 16, for just a few St. Patrick’s Day events and great dining deals. And frequent contributor, Gail Anders, explores luck and the part it plays for casino players on page 27. Ever fascinated with this subject, she promises more about luck in future issues.
In recognition of this month’s national Problem Gambling Awareness Week, March 4th to March 10th, I want to remind you to be aware of your casino play. e goal of the week is to educate the general public and health care professionals about the warning signs of problem gambling and raise awareness about help that is available both locally and nationally. e vast majority of casino players nationwide go to casinos for entertainment. Research from the National Council on Problem Gambling indicates that 2%–3% of the U.S. population will have a gambling problem in any given year. at’s 6 million to 9 million Americans, yet only a small fraction seek out services, such as treatment and self-help recovery programs.
Every month we feature a California Council on Problem Gambling pro bono advertisement directly below this editorial to give readers information about help for problem gambling. When casino play stops being fun, it’s time to stop and seek help. e California Council on Problem Gaming has resources available for problem gamblers. Check out the online and telephone information below.
Here are a few tips for keeping your play fun at the casino: Gamble socially with family or friends — not alone. Limit gambling by predetermining how much to gamble, and for how long. Never gamble more than you can a ord. Never borrow money to gamble. Don’t gamble when under stress, or when feeling lonely, angry or depressed. Drink alcohol responsibly when gambling. Enjoy all amenities at your favorite casinos. Have a meal, get a spa treatment, or go to a show.
Above all, always keep your play fun, and wager wisely at the casinos.
