ASlways Keep Your Play Fun
an Diego County has more Indian casinos than any other county in California, and including those in the rest of the area counties, there are 22 casinos that Southern Californians have easy access to on any day. March is always one of the months when we focus on Responsible Gaming, and with the news last month of the former
mayor of San Diego, Maureen O’Connor’s gambling problem, it’s a timely message.
is year’s National Problem Gambling Awareness Week, March 3rd to March 9th, is a special time to be aware of your
casino play. e goal of the week is to bring public awareness about the warning signs of problem gambling, and raise awareness about the help that is available both locally and nationally. e vast majority of casino players nationwide go to casinos for entertainment. Research from the National Council on Problem Gambling indicates that 2%–3% of the U.S. population will have a gambling problem in any given year. In California, 3.7%, or 1 million are a ected. at’s 6 million to 9 million Americans, yet only a small fraction seeks out services, such as treatment and self-help recovery programs. ere is hope and help for those who su er from gambling problems.
Every month since our rst issue in February 2002, we feature a California Council on Problem Gambling pro bono advertisement directly below this editorial to give readers information and encouragement about seeking help for problem gambling. When casino play ceases to be fun, it’s time to stop and get help. e California Council on Problem Gaming has resources available for problem gamblers. Check out the online and telephone information below.
Here are a few tips for keeping your play fun at the casino. Gamble socially with family or friends — not alone. Limit your gambling by predetermining how much to gamble and for how long. Don’t gamble more than you can a ord. Don’t borrow money to gamble. Don’t gamble when under stress or when feeling lonely, angry or depressed. And be sure to drink alcohol responsibly when gambling. Have fun playing, and keep it that way.
is month we are excited to introduce a new Aristocrat video slot revival, Cash Express Gold ClassTM. You’ll love this new revival of a familiar slot favorite with its ve multi-progressive jackpots and so many bonus features. is slot will enthrall, delight and amaze. Read about it starting on page 18. And March is great for getting the green — dollars, that is. Spring is in the air, Easter is early this year, on March 31st. Plus, it’s St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday, March 17th, the traditional lucky day. Check out Gaming News, page 20, for just a few St. Patrick’s Day casino events.
As always, keep your play fun, and wager wisely at the casinos.
