n the past few years, slot tournaments have been elevated to party fun, and are thrilling, streamlined events that casino players love. Coupled with the attraction of signi cant free play and cash prizes, some with grand prizes of $25,000 and $10,000, slot tournaments are Big Slot Bouts. Technology has had a hand is making slot
tournaments easier for casinos to run and more enjoyable for players. Gone is the need to wait for hours to tally scores and prepare tote boards. With the development of Multimedia Games’ award-winning TournEvent®, casinos can hold slot tournaments with ease, using banks of slots already on the casino oor with built-in electronic tote boards and even personalized video screens for players in tournament nals. ese are not your grandmother’s slot tournaments. e TournEvent of Champions® in its second year, searches for the Best Slot Tournament Player — this year nationwide. Read about it and some recent big slot tournaments in Southern California starting on page 18, and check out September’s slot tournaments at featured casinos. If you haven’t played in a slot tournament lately, make sure you do soon. Many are even free to players club members.
Last month we wrote here about the passing of contributing writer Bill Burton. is month we remember Bill on page 6, and reprint the rst article we published of his, “What’s Luck Got to Do with It,” that appeared in our September 2002 issue. Bill was a great proponent of gaining knowledge of casino games. His work will remain his legacy. We already heard from a number of readers last month who wrote and called expressing their sorrow to hear about his passing. We will all miss him.
September marks the beginning of football season and an exciting roster of football-related promotions at Southern California casinos. Don’t miss the chance for cash, free play and even tickets to e Big Game in the Meadowlands in New Jersey in February 2014. Check out page 16 for football promotions at featured casinos.
We’re preparing the October 2013 issue, Best Casinos 2013, where we will announce the 2013 Best of Southern California GamingTM Reader’s Choice Awards. We’ve been inundated with your ballots. And it’s no wonder: Southern California has some of the best casinos in the country. Make sure you pick up a copy of the October issue to see if your votes matched the majority of those we received. And, of course, we’ll announce the 2013 Reader’s Poll Drawing winners. Who knows, you may be one of the $500, $400, $300, $200 or $100 cash winners — or one of the 40 winners of the fantastic new Williams Interactive and Phantom EFX WMS Slots: Ghost Stories game.
Enjoy September’s holidays and have a fun and safe Labor Day weekend. And remember, always keep your play fun at the casinos!
