Fifteen years ago, in February 2002, the rst issue of the Gaming GuideTM was published. Two years before, in March 2000, California voters had passed Proposition 1A that amended the California Constitution to permit casino-style gaming on Indian lands, and within that time, Southern California had 15 operating casinos.
First published as e San Diego Gaming GuideTM, the tabloid included San Diego County casino listings, slot news, entertainment, bingo, tournament and poker news, players club promotions, big winners, players’ tips and more. Six issues later in July 2002, as a result of overwhelming reader and advertiser requests, e San Diego Gaming Guide was expanded to include all Southern California Indian casinos, and renamed the Southern California Gaming GuideTM. And since then, we’ve been Southern California’s only casino player publication.
Over the past 15 years in 180 issues we’ve reported almost $2 billion of Southern California casino jackpot winnings, detailed numerous Southern California casino openings and expansions, introduced hundreds of new slots, presented over 600 Reader’s Choice Awards, and delivered Southern California Indian casino news to hundreds of thousands casino player readers each month. From the beginning, our goal is to promote gaming as entertainment, and promote fun, responsible gaming.
A lot has changed in the Southern California casino world since 2002. Many Southern California casinos have expanded to casino resorts. In 2002 there were 15 casinos and only four were casino resorts in Southern California. In 2017, there are 23 casinos and 13 are casino resorts. Plus, there have been amazing changes in the games we play at casinos, and we’ve kept readers current on the latest of them. From celebrity and television show favorites to blockbuster lm franchise themed slots, in 3-d and hd, we continue to feature them all.
And since 2003, we deliver the results of our annual Reader’s Choice polls. Every year, readers have a chance to voice their choices for Southern California’s Best Casinos and Best Slots in the annual Reader’s Choice Best Casinos Awards and Reader’s Choice Best Slots Awards.
Since our rst issue, the Southern California Gaming Guide has been online, in a page-by-page digital publication. TheGamingGuide.com, features all California Indian casinos, in addition to Southern California casinos, along with maps and directions. Recently redesigned, there are special sections including daily casino promotion calendars, poker and bingo calendars, plus a new entertainment section where online readers can purchase headlining event tickets. And in coming months, we will add new features, contests and more new online games. Take a tour online to see what’s new, and for some details on new features at TheGamingGuide.com, see page 10 of this issue.
ank you for helping us reach our 15-year publishing milestone. We plan on many more years!
