Have you ever wondered about the origin of the phrase “no dice”? Or thought about where the idiom “the buck stops here” comes from? Contributor Alex Winters culled a group of gambling idioms that have made their way from horse racing and gambling into our everyday parlance and writing. See page 20 for No Dice! Gambling Idiom Origins. You may be amazed to find out how some gambling phrases have come into being.
With American acceptance of gaming at an all-time high, casino gamblers are actively practicing responsible gaming, according to new research released in February by the American Gaming Association. Bettors report setting budgets, sticking to them and being aware of available responsible gaming resources at significantly high rates. In recognition of National Problem Gambling Awareness Month, the entire month of March, we hope to further the growth of responsible gaming by reminding Southern California casino players on page 25 to Keep Your Play Fun with some useful tips for expanding and enjoying your casino visits. The goal of the National Problem Gambling Awareness Month is to educate the public and healthcare professionals about the warning signs of problem gambling and to raise awareness about the help that is available both locally and nationally. Check out the pro bono ad for the California Council on Problem Gambling, this month, also on page 25, for information.
Meanwhile, we hope you always keep your casino experience entertaining and wager wisely at the casinos.
ANewbury Park Man Wins Maserati at Chumash Casino Resort
Newbury Park man won the Drive Your Dreams giveaway on January 27th at Chumash Casino Resort, acquiring keys to the $150,000 Maserati GranTurismo that had been on display near the casino entrance in a
large “toy car” package for the past three months. The winner, known as Dean D. (pictured right), said he had a feeling his name would be called when the quarterly grand prize giveaway announcement was made.
“It’s surreal just standing here and talking about it,” Dean said.“I’ve been coming for 25 years, since it was a tent. For me, this is pure entertainment. I’ll pass through the area on business, and coming here is just a great release after work.”
Dean said the most he’s ever won prior to Sunday’s drawing was $2,000 once on a cruise ship, and a $1,400 slot jackpot at Chumash Casino Resort. He accumulated entries for the drawing over the past three months by using his Gold tier Club Indulge card whenever he played slots or table games.
Chumash Casino Resort features a car giveaway every week. And the next quarterly giveaway, Two for the Road, features two luxury BMWs — a 2019 M4 Convertible and a 2019 X5—valued at over $150,000. The Two for the Road drawing will be held on Sunday, April 28th. For more details, see page 26 of this issue, visit the Club Indulge desk or go to Chumashcasino.com.
