Located in one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods of San Diego, as a Title 1 school, 100% of Webster Elementary School’s students are enrolled in the free lunch program. The new school garden will serve as an effective way to teach students and their families about proper nutrition and will be incorporated into lessons related to health, science, math, reading, and more. They will use the grant money to purchase a garden shed, a raised garden bed, garden soil, a wheelbarrow, trash cans, a garden hose, and a variety of garden tools

students through their “ROAR” philosophy (Respect, Ownership, Achievement, Rigor). It plans to use the Barona grant money to purchase approximately 300 books to upgrade and restock the library.
The Barona Education Grant program is the first of its kind in California created and administered by a Tribal Government. Since its launch in 2006, Barona has awarded over $3.6 million to California schools statewide. The program has equipped 729 schools with hundreds of computers, thousands of books, iPads, computer software programs and various other technologies and school supplies.
Sycuan Band Charity Golf Tournament Benefits $100,000 for

he Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation held its 29th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Singing Hills Golf Resort on September 26th when over 330 players participated in the day-long tournament to benefit four local charities.

In partnership with the City of San Diego, the SDFJC will be the first center of its kind in the United States, providing help and hope to women, men and children who are victims of family violence and sex trafficking. Every day victims find safety, protection from their abuser, legal help, counseling, food, clothing, spiritual support, medical assistance, and other free services from the Center’s professionals and volunteers.
UCSD School of Medicine ANAMS is a student organization that strives to increase the number of Native American students in medicine and allied health professions of Dentistry, Veterinary, Optometry, Podiatry, Pharmacy and Public Health.
“The organizations we chose for this year’s tournament are making a tremendous impact on the local community and support a variety of causes including suicide prevention, assistance for Native
American health professionals, ending human trafficking and honoring the Native American military,” said Cody J. Emergency Response Team (PERT), City of San Diego’s San Diego Family Justice Center (SDFJC) and UCSD School of Medicine Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS) for the total donation of $100,000.
