Summer Like No Other
All Southern California casinos are now open after months (for some, three months) of their temporary
closings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When and if you plan to go, remember to bring the new
accessory you can’t leave home without—your face covering—and expect a new casino experience. Temperature scanners, hand sanitizers, personal protective equipment, limits of occupancy capacity, added spacing between slot machines, and limited seating at table games are now the “new normal” at the casino, all
planned to provide casino guests and employees a safe environment.
It’s a summer like no other at the casino. Summer is traditionally the time of year we look forward to get
away for a weekend of casino fun. And Southern California casinos are constantly at work to make it the safest time for their guests and employees. Fun options on casino floors include incredible cash, car and truck giveaways, players club point multipliers, hot seats, and much more. Plus, practicing social distancing, you can have fun at outdoor concerts and in the coolest Southern California casino pools. Just be certain to bring your face mask—better make it more than one for the weekend—and be sure to adhere to all social distancing guidelines, both indoors and out. See pages 10 and 11 for Summer Like No Other!, a brief guide of where to find your summer fun at featured Southern California casinos.
The “new normal” at the casino may be around for a while, and has ushered in the use of technological advances and operational changes that promote health and safety and ultimately, enhance the casino experience. Check out Safety First: Casino Guest and Employee Health Foremost on page 14 for some additional safety features featured casinos are using.

n June 11th, Sycuan Casino Resort donated $5,000 to the La Mesa Business Disaster Recovery Fund. The donation was in support of small businesses that were affected by looting and property damage
stemming from riots in late May, in the San Diego suburb of La Mesa. The East County Chamber of Commerce Foundation spearheaded the relief fund in an effort to help rebuild the La Mesa community.

“The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce is grateful for our partnership with the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and value their commitment to La Mesa and our region,” said Mary England, CEO and President of the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce. “This has been a challenging time for our local business community and we are deeply moved by the outpouring of support that we have received. This investment from Sycuan will allow our businesses to begin their journey on the road to recovery.”
“On behalf of Sycuan, it is our honor to present this donation to the La Mesa Business Disaster Recovery Fund,” said Joshua Muse, Vice Chairman, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.
“We understand the importance of supporting
local small businesses and we hope this donation goes a long way in rebuilding the La Mesa community.”
“We are seeing a lot of bigger
businesses like Sycuan, who have
been affected by COVID-19 and are
still jumping in to help out in these
situations,” said Rick Wilson, CEO
and President of the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce. “Seeing San Diego come together has been pretty amazing.”
The San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce and The Chamber Foundation have put together a GoFundMe account to support the affected businesses in La Mesa due to recent violent fires and looting. All proceeds will go
directly to small businesses that were destroyed or damaged. The Chamber Foundation is a non- profit organization that has been helping East County for over 26 years.
