RIeal Money Online Poker in California?
f you’re a poker player and have been waiting to play real money online poker legally in California, you’ve been teased by the many reports this year of impending legislative bills to legalize the game. But nothing happened in 2014 California legislative sessions for online poker. No bills
were passed that legalized and regulated poker on the Internet. But Californians may now be able to play online poker for real money.
 e Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel, whose reservation is about 20 miles northeast of San Diego, has an online poker site, PrivateTable.com, and believes it can legally o er real money online poker without any change in California law.
On the Santa Ysabel Gaming Commission website, the Tribe states: “In o ering online gaming through Santa Ysabel Interactive, the Tribe is exerting its sovereign right
under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) to
regulate and conduct Class II gaming from the Tribe’s reservation. Class II gaming, as de ned by IGRA, includes poker and bingo, but does not include slot-based games or house-banked games, such as blackjack. House-banked games and slot machines are de ned as Class III games, and can only be o ered in a tribal casino upon agreement with the state through a Tribal-State Gaming Compact. Santa Ysabel has had such a compact with the state since
