New Spa Resort Casino Uses Environmentally Friendly TPower System
he new Spa Resort Casino generates electricity and keep its guests cool with a new state-of-the-art power system.  e system is a 2,000 sq. ft. self-contained power plant located on site at the new
casino, and consists of four natural gas-operated co-generation units. It is the  rst of its kind in use by a Tribe as a primary electric source in California.  e new Spa Resort Casino opened on November 3, 2003, and the co-generation plant is expected to make the new casino 95% electrically self-su cient by generating up to 1,400 kilowatts per hour.  e plant will o set the casino’s cooling expenses by using waste heat from the engines to create chilled water for conditioned air.  e four- engine plant is referred to as a co-generation or combined heat and power system because it generates both electrical and thermal energy from the same source, i.e., the system uses clean-burning natural gas to generate electricity and thermal energy.  e state-of-the-art co-generation power plant meets the world’s most stringent air quality standards.

$165 Million Expansion of OHarrah’s Rincon Casino & Resort
n November 19, Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. announced plans for a $165 million expansion of Harrah’s Rincon Casino & Resort owned by the Rincon Luiseño Band of Mission Indians.
 e largest hotel in north San Diego County, the 21-story facility in Valley Center will have more than 650 rooms.  e current casino resort has 200 rooms with a pool and six restaurants.  e expansion will more than triple the size of the hotel and also includes a spa, a parking garage, expansion of the casino  oor and other enhancements.  e expansion is scheduled for completion by the end of 2004.
 e National Indian Gaming Commission has also approved the Tribe’s extension of its agreement for HCAL Corporation, a Harrah’s subsidiary, to manage the hotel- casino through November 14, 2010.
“ is expansion marks another milestone for the Rincon tribe,” said John Currier, Rincon Tribal Chairman. “We knew from the outset that Harrah’s was the absolute best partner for us.  eir expertise in casino management has bene ted us in many ways, including better education, health care, and basic infrastructure services for our people. We look forward to what this new chapter will bring.”
With approximately 1,300 employees, the casino has generated an estimated $31 million in annual payroll including bene ts, o cials said.  e expansion is expected to add 350 employees to the operation.
