OInternet Gaming Now Illegal
n September 29th Congress passed legislation to outlaw Internet gambling.  e Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act shuts down online gambling by prohibiting credit card companies, banks and electronic fund transfer companies from processing
 e Internet gambling industry is headquartered almost entirely outside the United States, although many of its customers live in the U.S. Gamblers in the U.S. make up about one-third of the world’s estimated 12 million online bettors, generating much of the world’s annual Internet gambling revenues of over $5.7 billion.
Over the past two years, the World Trade Organization has agreed—and ruled that the U.S. was illegally restricting trade by banning Internet gambling.
 e new law does not a ect gambling on state lotteries, or at race tracks or casinos. Gaming industry pundits say the measure will force the thriving Internet gambling industry underground.
